Science or Fiction Each week our host will come up with three science news items or facts, two genuine, one fictitious. He will challenge our panel of skeptics to sniff out the fake - and you can play along. Theme: Item 1: A recent analysis confirms that the current red spot of Jupiter is the same spot first observed by Cassini in 1665, making it at least 360 years old. Item 2: By analyzing tool-making researchers find that humans began cumulative culture around 600,000 years ago. Item 3: For the first time astronomers witness the activation of a massive galactic black hole into an active galactic nucleus. Segment #6. Skeptical Quote of the Week “The downside of skepticism: it can easily turn into an arrogant position of a priori rejection of any new phenomenon or idea, a position that is as lacking in critical thinking as the one of the true believer, and that simply does not help either science or the public at large.” ― Massimo Pigliucci, Nonsense on Stilts: How to Tell Science from Bunk

    41:35 The claim that breast cancer patients reported using CAM more had a higher mortality rate is an association not causation. This could be because people are more likely to use CAM are also in a worse shape in their health. So your conclusion that CAM’s sole purpose is to scam money is a non sequitor

    i love how he says big corps cant shut things down guy invents new type of fuel delivery 150 gpm unalived by poison (he said "i was poisoned" right before he fell over unalive) med examiner was rushed to push his report no testing done and then cremated wife did not approve the cremation shortly after turning oil company's down, man invents a new way to make power unalived himself 3 pew pew to the back of the head ruled self unaliving, there is hundred if not millions being made on things we live on everyday if something comes across that would make those companies loose the money they deal with it one way or another, raymond rife's machine worked look at all the medical research that is being done on it now ted talks, cancer hospitals, and independent researchers all chasing the same thing frequency's killing disease cells (not just cancer), the A.M.A back when it was formed basically said " if the medical profession is not profitable then we should limit the amount of doctors and research so it becomes profitable" but back then they were just a union like steel workers union so they bash the proof and list it as quackery and move on the new researchers,ted talks and hospitals researching the frequencies to destroy diseased cells will probably get called quackery soon as it is one shot treatments why cure when you can make a person linger on and keep them paying. oh and as for skeptics they are doing their jobs they are pointing out how ludicrous it sounds and cant be real that's their jobs now if they get paid for it by corps or not is another story.

Freedom. disarmed public "the people" are always the ones on the short end of the stick when it comes to rights and freedom period. no historical analysis will say I am wrong on this. The problem is why are people in society so mentally disturbed in USA to take their lives. Santamaria and her cohort are Failing at their jobs..... Period end of story. Gun safety should be taught k-12 its baisc safety like just say no traffic laws sex ed. but the left would never teach gun safety in school.....LOL your Biased AF education is making it worse. It's strange to continue in this day and age to find people like this who "follow the science" but only follow science which is outdated or is no longer true. Science is about discovery not about dismissing things. What may be true today may not be true tomorrow. We're always learning. All of us are well aware of how electromagnetic pulses aka frequencies affect on humans, both physically and mentally. So you're trying to convince me that electromagnetic pulses aka frequencies won't affect viruses? Right! lol FYI: The Rife Universal Microscope was the grandfather of the Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). It's not replicated or in use to day because to the Electron Microscope replaced it with much better at magnification. I really hate it when quacks like this poster claims authority on a topic he obviously knows nothing about. Talk about misleading information. smh

    Back in the 70s when I was teenager I was all excited by "Chariots of the Gods" by Erich von Daniken and would talk on and on about how aliens built all these ancient things. My father suggested that maybe I wasn't giving enough credit to past civilizations just because they didn't have electricity and cars.

    Parenting: dunno, my boy was allowed to do anything he wanted, but we talked to him about choices, consequences, risks, and how he wanted his life to be. He's an adult, now, and doesn't do anything close to what I was up to when I was young. He's just cool. I was raised with constant conflict. Fist fights, maybe looked at boiling water to find myself on the floor from a slap to the head, a childhood lost. I got out at 18, and was a complete hedonist. Got lucky to make it far enough to work myself out. My wife is responsible for this, but we just treated him as a human with autonomy, gave some guidance, and it worked out.

    "We'd never make a deep fake of a living person without their permission" WTF are you on??? The ENTIRE REASON the industry is moving forward is due to tech nerds TRYING to create realistic and convincing representations of real world women so they DON'T need "their permission". (If they were willing to get permission, we already have a sim for that... reality)

    As to the 'AI Self-love' discussion: We should PROBABLY just stop raising humans who are so self- involved, egoistic, awkward and introverted... But if we can't, they may as well have an imaginary friend if they can't find a real one... it works for 3yr olds. EDIT: "Star trek fans hated that episode" .... lololololol .... i suspect that is bc the scolding and supposed social mis-step of Geordie struck a cord in the audience, being that they all dream of their own identity- less girlfriend created for their needs alone *see: all anime ever Edit 2: Is annoying that the problem "society" (ppl terrified of social backlash) has with the concept is "the person is alive", as though it has ANYTHING to do with the real individual. It's a gaddam piece of code, an nothing more than the extension of everyone internal imagination anyway; it has ABSOLUTELY zero bearing on the living version, and is in NO WAY more reprehensible bc of it. All the potential problems are in the psyche of the user, and whether the practice of these artificial "relationships" (assisted day dreaming) foster unhealthy emptiness stays or social interaction.

    I think you have to give some room for those of us that have the para-social relationship that assume you get our sarcastic humor through a short bit of text. We often feel a part of the conversation. The funny comment comes up in the brain, and we type it knowing full well you will get the context, when it's probably not the case. Maybe that person thinks you are a sellout, so what? But probably thought it was a funny thing to say in the middle of the conversation. I have my wife and 2 friends to talk to in RL, and listen to a lot of podcasts with some power tool going. I learn about your lives, your senses of humor, and have my own thoughts about the subject. I experience the joy and sadness with you. I have the "goddamnit, Steve, Cara was making a point" moments, I have the " y'all didn't hear Evan's quip?" moments. I had one thought when Steve and Cara were talking that was just " Big Brain Theory" and in the moment it was funny, if I typed it out it wouldn't make sense. Dunno, consider giving the one liner "NERD!" stuff a pass, as they may think of you as in their circle, and understand what they mean.

    Galveston was a hub of fierce native tribal resistance stretching to New Orleans that was ‘erased’ by calling them Black to deny any land claims previous to Louisiana Purchase. As well, they were maligned as cannibals to rationalize ‘white’ settlement that was mostly indentured Brits & Europeans - exported for being ‘swarthy’ and less-than compliant with Christian rules and packed in ‘like sardines’ for century after centuries before the finally Arabs noticed the trade and brought African stock. British pricks define Swedes and Germans as ‘swarthy’ as Italians and Spaniards, and all the nobility shipped off ‘refuse’ to extend their empires over the horizon. Look up definitions of the time, like Ben Franklin’s writings on populations, and farther back Bede, you understand how Normans invented Identity Politics when they crushed & then exported the pagan survivors in chains.

    42:32 Not to necessarily disagree with statement, but we have to be careful about assuming "generational differences." Much of the time the "complaints" I hear can be easily atributed to age differences, but assumed to be generational differences. This is not something you can easily determine, because we tend to retroactively attribute our current maturity on our younger selves and forget how foolish and immature our peers were in years past. I think this explains the generational differences at least as well as actual change that Steve describes later.

    • @theoriginalmonstermaker
      @theoriginalmonstermaker 3 дні тому

      Yeah, I think it's safe to say "all kids are dumb"... But what may change generationally is the #of kids who make it to adulthood without "growing up" (I.e. coming to terms with their ego and discovering they are NOT in fact the center of the universe)

The rods can apparently be any material, the ´skill’ can’t be learned, and a huge part of the defense is ´yeah sometimes it doesn’t work’. 🤔

    This is mostly an inaccurate presentation, though there is some nonsense in the field, some mentioned here. Just as examples, x-rays can cause cancer and are used to treat cancer; small doses of allergens are used to treat allergies. These are two treatments brought into conventional medicine by homeopaths. This is a process described by non-linear dose effect responses according to the field of hormesis. The “law of infinitesimals” does not exist in homeopathy, since tinctures and molecular dosages are frequently used.

    Various studies show that the visual system of the brain has been completely mapped and there was no place that could be responsible for unifying perceptions. A substance dualistic metaphysical explanation is necessary. " All of the proposed computational theories of variable binding are quite complex and none have experimental support... Essentially all the experiments on visual feature binding involve subjective judgments-the subject is asked to report what he saw. This leads some investigators to claim that a neural model of feature-binding is at least the core of a solution to currently unsolvable mind-brain problem." "There is now overwhelming biological and behavioral evidence that the brain contains no stable, high-resolution full field representation of a visual scene, even though that is what we subjectively experience (Martinez-Conde et al. 2008). 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹 (Kaas and Collins 2003) and 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. The subjective experience is thus inconsistent with the neural circuitry." www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3538094/
